Following his participation in the U-17 World Championship in August 2023, Baroniya suffered a right knee injury that necessitated an ACL surgery. The recovery process proved to be a difficult period, marked by a premature return to training that resulted in a severe infection. This complication required a second surgery in October 2023, followed by a third procedure in 2024 after he re-injured the same knee shortly after resuming his preparation.
A Long Road to Recovery and Resilience
Reflecting on the setbacks, Baroniya admitted that his eagerness to return to competition was a significant error. He noted that both he and his medical team pushed his rehabilitation too aggressively, leading to the infection that stalled his progress. The repeated injuries left him sidelined for nearly a year, a time during which his parents encouraged him to prioritize his education over his wrestling career.
Despite the temptation to quit, Baroniya credited his coach and roommate for their unwavering support. Their encouragement helped him persevere through the rehabilitation process. His return to form was validated when he secured a gold medal in the senior category, a milestone that reaffirmed his commitment to the sport. Wrestling has been a central part of Baroniya's life since childhood, influenced heavily by his father. Although his father was also a wrestler, he was unable to pursue the sport at a high level due to a lack of guidance and resources. Consequently, the elder Baroniya took on the role of his son's first coach, training him on local grounds near their village before eventually enrolling him in a professional academy.
With his father’s unfulfilled aspirations serving as a primary motivation, Baroniya has set his sights on the highest honors in the sport. While he maintains a long-term goal of winning an Olympic gold medal, he is currently focused on a methodical approach to his career. His immediate objective is to perform well at the Asian Games, followed by a target of success at the Senior World Championships. As he prepares for his debut, Baroniya remains focused on taking his development one step at a time, carrying his family's legacy with a renewed sense of purpose.
