The race, contested over 2,400 metres, saw Vivek G adopt a patient approach in the early stages. Settling the horse well off the pace, the pair travelled comfortably in sixth position for much of the journey. As the field turned for home, Vivek G made his move, steering his mount to the extreme outside. Zuccaro responded with a powerful burst of speed, closing the gap on the leader, DYF, before pulling away to secure the win by a margin of 2-1/2 lengths. The final time for the event was 2m 28.88s.
A Day of Competitive Racing
The President of India Gold Cup was the highlight of a busy card that featured several other competitive races. In the Rock of Gibraltar Plate, French Lieutenant, ridden by Antony Raj S, claimed victory over My Touch and Gacchanmanasvin. The Falaknuma Trophy saw two divisions, with Cosmic Gift taking the honours in the second division, while She’s A Bomb emerged victorious in the first division under the guidance of Sohan Kumar.
The Totaram’s Cup was won by One N Only, with Akshay Kumar in the saddle, finishing ahead of Emerald Touch and Black Onyx. Meanwhile, the Nelston Plate provided a close finish, as Onslaught, piloted by Imran Chisty, edged out Valledonna by a neck to secure the win. The day’s proceedings were not without incident, as Materiality was unable to complete the second race after stopping near the 400m mark, and Flare was withdrawn from the first division of the Falaknuma Trophy after failing to leave the stalls.
