Pranavi Urs Makes History with Individual Golf Gold at Asian Games

Pranavi Urs has etched her name into the history books, becoming the first Indian woman to secure an individual gold medal in golf at the Asian Games. Competing in Aichi-Nagoya, the 23-year-old from Mysore delivered a composed performance in the final round to clinch the top spot on the podium.

The golfer finished the tournament with a four-day aggregate score of 15-under 265. Despite a challenging start to her final round, she maintained her composure to card a par 70, successfully executing the strategy she had prepared for the event.

A Landmark Victory for Indian Golf

Reflecting on her achievement, Urs expressed her satisfaction with how the competition unfolded. She noted that while the final day did not begin exactly as she had envisioned, her ability to remain focused and take the game one shot at a time proved decisive. The victory marks a significant milestone in her career, which has seen her compete on the Ladies European Tour for the past three years.

Beyond her individual success, Urs contributed to a strong collective showing for India. Alongside teammates Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar, she helped secure a silver medal in the team event. The trio finished with a combined score of 14-under 546, trailing behind the gold-medal winning team from China, while Taiwan claimed the bronze.

Building on a Professional Foundation

Urs’s triumph in Aichi-Nagoya follows a period of consistent development on the international stage. During her three-year tenure on the Ladies European Tour, she has secured eight top-10 finishes. Her pedigree for high-pressure success was also evident last November, when she became the first Indian woman to win a professional mixed-gender tournament at the IGPL in Mumbai.

This latest performance solidifies her standing as a leading figure in Indian golf. By securing the individual gold, she has set a new benchmark for women's golf in the country, demonstrating both the technical skill and mental fortitude required to succeed at the Asian Games level.
