Commanders receive injury boost as Oweh and Payne cleared for Eagles opener

The Washington Commanders have received a timely boost ahead of their season-opening clash against the Philadelphia Eagles, with head coach Dan Quinn confirming that four key players have been cleared for action. Among the group returning to the lineup is outside linebacker Odafe Oweh, who had been sidelined for nearly a month due to a calf strain.

Oweh sustained the injury during a joint practice session with Miami on August 12. After a period of rehabilitation, he returned to the training field this week, albeit on a limited basis during Wednesday and Thursday sessions. While the team has confirmed his availability, it remains to be seen whether the coaching staff will implement a snap count for the pass-rusher during Sunday's game.

Joining Oweh on the active list are defensive tackle Daron Payne and outside linebacker K'Lavon Chaisson. Payne’s status had been monitored closely after he was limited in Thursday’s practice due to a knee issue, while Chaisson had been absent for the final two weeks of training camp while managing a knee injury of his own. Running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt, who led the team with 805 rushing yards during his rookie season, has also been cleared to play following a lower-leg concern.
