EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — The
Biadasz, who joined the Chargers in March after a stint with the Washington Commanders, was a key addition to the team's revamped offensive line. He signed a three-year contract valued at up to $30 million, marking a significant investment by general manager Joe Hortiz in the team's offensive front. Prior to his release from Washington in February, Biadasz had started 31 games over the previous two seasons. He was originally drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, where he made a notable impact by starting all 49 games he played and earning a Pro Bowl selection after the 2022 season.
Rookie Center Steps Up
In the wake of Biadasz's injury, rookie Jake Slaughter is set to take over as the Chargers' starting center. Slaughter, a second-round draft pick, has primarily been utilized at left guard during training camp, but his experience playing exclusively at center during his time at Florida has prepared him for this new role. Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh expressed confidence in Slaughter's abilities, stating, "The mind is sharp from snap, pre-snap, snap to whistle. The way he understands the position, it's really good."
As the Chargers navigate this setback, the team will look to Slaughter to fill the void left by Biadasz and maintain the effectiveness of their offensive line as they prepare for the upcoming season.
