Patriots RB TreVeyon Henderson Cleared for Week 2 Return Against Steelers

New England Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson is poised to make his season debut this Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The second-year playmaker, who was sidelined for the team's Week 1 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, confirmed on Thursday that he has fully recovered from the ankle injury that kept him out of action.

Henderson, who sustained the right ankle injury during a practice session on August 24, returned to the training field this week. After participating fully in Wednesday's practice session without setbacks, he expressed optimism about his status for the upcoming home opener at Gillette Stadium.

Reflecting on his time away from the field, Henderson noted that the recovery process provided an opportunity for personal growth. He expressed gratitude for his return to health and his eagerness to rejoin his teammates on the gridiron. The running back stated that he is ready to go and thankful to be back in the mix following a frustrating start to the season.

The return of the speedy back provides a significant boost to the New England offense. During his 2025 rookie campaign, Henderson proved to be a versatile threat, appearing in all 17 regular-season games. He concluded that year with 911 rushing yards on 180 carries and nine rushing touchdowns, while also contributing 35 receptions for 221 yards and a receiving score.

Henderson’s presence is expected to provide relief for starting running back Rhamondre Stevenson. In the season-opening 13-10 defeat to Seattle, Stevenson shouldered a heavy workload, participating in 60 of the team's 71 offensive snaps. With Henderson back in the rotation, the Patriots look to diversify their ground attack as they seek their first victory of the new season against Pittsburgh.
