Matthew Stafford Sets Unique NFL Milestone with Rams Touchdown Record

Matthew Stafford has etched his name into the NFL history books, becoming the first player to hold the franchise record for passing touchdowns for two separate active teams. The veteran quarterback achieved the feat during the Los Angeles Rams' 35-21 win against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, reaching a career milestone that underscores his longevity and impact across two different organizations.

The record-breaking moment arrived in the second quarter when Stafford connected with wide receiver Puka Nacua for an 11-yard score. That touchdown marked his 155th for the Rams, allowing him to surpass the previous franchise record of 154 held by Roman Gabriel. Having already established himself as the all-time leader in passing touchdowns for the Detroit Lions with 282, Stafford now uniquely sits atop the record lists for both clubs.

A Career Defined by Longevity and Teamwork

Reflecting on the achievement, Stafford maintained a humble perspective, emphasizing the collaborative nature of the sport. While acknowledging the significance of the record, he jokingly noted that such milestones are often a byproduct of a long career and the natural progression of time in the league. He stressed that throwing touchdowns is far from a solo effort, crediting his teammates for their blocking and route-running, as well as the coaching staff for their play-calling.

Stafford’s performance against the Raiders was clinical, as he threw all three of his touchdown passes in the first half, tying a career high for a single half of play. He finished the game completing 23 of 29 passes for 195 yards and one interception. His 79% completion rate marked his most efficient single-game performance since 2018. Beyond the touchdown record, the veteran also moved into second place on the Rams' all-time completions list with 1,851, overtaking Jim Everett.

Since joining the Rams following a high-profile trade after the 2020 season, Stafford has appeared in 81 games for the franchise. Through seven games this current season, he has maintained a 67.3% completion rate, accumulating 1,989 passing yards with 14 touchdowns and seven interceptions. As he continues his tenure in Los Angeles, the quarterback remains focused on the road ahead, expressing his continued passion for the game and his desire to build on his current success.
