Derrick Henry accepts responsibility for costly fumble in Ravens' loss to Browns

Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry took full accountability following his team's 13-10 loss to the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, directly attributing the defeat to his own late-game error. Addressing his teammates in the locker room immediately after the game, the veteran playmaker insisted that the blame for the outcome should rest solely on his shoulders.

The pivotal moment occurred in the fourth quarter when Henry, attempting to push forward for a first down, had the ball stripped by Cleveland linebacker Carson Schwesinger. The turnover gave the Browns possession at the Baltimore 35-yard line, setting the stage for a seven-play drive that culminated in a 2-yard touchdown run by Audric Estime, which leveled the score at 10-10 with 8:33 remaining.

A recurring issue for the veteran back

This turnover marked Henry's third fourth-quarter fumble since the beginning of the 2025 season, a statistic that leads the NFL. Reflecting on the incident, the 32-year-old running back acknowledged the gravity of the mistake. He noted that while he feels like a broken record, he must return to work to ensure better ball security, emphasizing that he cannot continue to put his team in such precarious situations.

The trend is a stark departure from the first nine seasons of his career, during which he lost only two fourth-quarter fumbles across 136 appearances. Since joining the Ravens in 2024, Henry has been a dominant force, leading the league with 4,050 rushing yards and 39 rushing touchdowns. However, his recent ball-security struggles have been significant, including costly fumbles in losses to the Buffalo Bills and Detroit Lions last season.

Team support and looking ahead

Despite the frustration surrounding the turnover, Ravens safety Kyle Hamilton defended his teammate, pointing to the immense contributions Henry has made to the franchise. Hamilton stated that no one in the locker room is pointing fingers, noting that Henry has frequently been the player to secure victories for the team. Ravens head coach Jesse Minter also offered support, praising Henry’s work ethic while suggesting that the defense should have been able to respond more effectively after the turnover occurred.

The loss leaves the Ravens at 4-2, now locked in a three-way tie for the top spot in the AFC North. The team will look to rebound in their upcoming matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals. For Henry, the focus remains singular: improving his ball security and ensuring he performs at a higher standard for the remainder of the season.
