Denver Broncos Place Rookie RB Jonah Coleman on Injured Reserve

The Denver Broncos have officially placed rookie running back Jonah Coleman on injured reserve after he sustained an ankle injury during the team's Week 2 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. The move, confirmed on Saturday, ensures that the first-year player will be sidelined for at least the next three contests.

According to reports, Coleman is dealing with a high ankle sprain. While the injury will keep him out of Sunday night’s matchup against the Los Angeles Rams, there is optimism regarding his recovery timeline. Sources indicate that the team expects the fourth-round pick to be available for selection when he is first eligible to return, which would be the October 25 game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Backfield Adjustments and Roster Moves

Coleman’s absence creates a void in the Broncos' backfield, particularly given his role in the team's recent success. During the win against Jacksonville, the rookie proved instrumental in the game-clinching drive, recording 33 of his 39 total rushing yards during the final 4 minutes and 41 seconds of play. That performance also included the first touchdown of his professional career, a 3-yard scoring run.

Head coach Sean Payton addressed the team's depth concerns on Friday, noting that the squad would remain competitive at the position. With Coleman sidelined, the Broncos will look to J.K. Dobbins and RJ Harvey to lead the rushing attack. Both players were full participants in practice throughout the latter half of the week after recovering from their respective hamstring injuries. Tyler Badie, who was the only running back to participate fully in Wednesday’s session, also remains available.

In conjunction with the move to place Coleman on injured reserve, the Broncos made several adjustments to their active roster on Saturday. The team signed long snapper Mitchell Fraboni from the practice squad. Additionally, fullback Adam Prentice and wide receiver Kolbe Katsis were elevated from the practice squad for the upcoming game against the Rams. The inclusion of Katsis provides depth in the return game, as All-Pro returner Marvin Mims Jr. is currently listed as questionable for Sunday due to a foot injury.
