The Los Angeles Lakers are set to immortalize one of the most successful figures in their franchise history by unveiling a statue of legendary head coach Phil Jackson. The tribute, which will be placed at Star Plaza outside Crypto.com Arena, is scheduled for a formal unveiling on April 9, 2027, just before the team’s home matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Jackson, who holds a total of 11 NBA coaching titles, secured five of those championships during his two separate tenures with the Lakers. His appointment to the organization, which spanned from 1999 to 2004 and again from 2005 to 2011, is credited with revitalizing the franchise's championship pedigree. Lakers acting governor Jeanie Buss highlighted Jackson's influence, noting that his unique coaching philosophy and commitment to excellence were instrumental in defining the team's modern era of success.

A Legacy of Championship Success

During his 11 seasons at the helm in Los Angeles, Jackson guided the team to a 5-2 record in the NBA Finals. His tenure was marked by two distinct championship runs: an initial three-peat from 2000 to 2002, anchored by the duo of Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal, followed by back-to-back titles in 2009 and 2010 with Bryant and Pau Gasol. His implementation of the triangle offense became a hallmark of his coaching style, allowing him to maximize the talents of some of the game's most iconic players.

Joining the Pantheon of Lakers Greats

The decision to honor Jackson follows his 2007 induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and his inclusion among the 15 greatest coaches in NBA history, a list compiled during the league's 75th anniversary celebration. The statue, commissioned by the Lakers and designed by artist Omri Amrany of Rotblatt Amrany Studio, will serve as a permanent fixture at the arena.

Once installed, Jackson will become the ninth individual to be honored with a statue at Star Plaza. He joins a prestigious group of Lakers legends, including Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Elgin Baylor, Chick Hearn, Magic Johnson, Pat Riley, Jerry West, Shaquille O'Neal, and Kobe Bryant. This addition reinforces the organization's commitment to celebrating the figures who have shaped its championship legacy over the decades.
