Kimi Antonelli Targets Perfect Weekend to Secure Maiden F1 Title at US Grand Prix

Mercedes prospect Kimi Antonelli heads into the United States Grand Prix facing a high-stakes scenario as he looks to clinch his maiden Formula 1 drivers' world championship. The 20-year-old Italian, who has enjoyed a standout campaign, acknowledges that the path to the title requires a flawless performance at the Circuit of the Americas.

To secure the championship this weekend, Antonelli must claim victory in Sunday's race while relying on a specific set of results from his closest competitors. For the title to be decided in his favour, his Mercedes teammate George Russell would need to finish outside the top eight, while Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton must finish outside the top four. Should these conditions be met, Antonelli would become the youngest champion in the history of the sport and the first Italian title-winner since Alberto Ascari in 1953.

Maintaining Focus Amid Championship Pressure

Speaking to reporters at the circuit on Thursday, a relaxed Antonelli admitted that the prospect of securing the title is significant. Despite the magnitude of the potential achievement, he remains committed to the approach that has served him well throughout the season. He noted that the team’s primary instruction during their morning briefing was to focus on enjoying the racing experience.

Antonelli acknowledged the difficulty of the task, noting that while he requires a perfect weekend, he also needs his rivals to struggle, which he described as an unlikely outcome. However, he remains grounded, emphasising that he is taking the season one race at a time and focusing on delivering his best performance regardless of the external variables.

The young driver also received a lighthearted piece of advice from Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time world champion who vacated his Mercedes seat for Antonelli ahead of his own move to Ferrari. When asked if he had any guidance for the championship contender, Hamilton offered a brief, smiling response: “Slow down!” As the weekend progresses, all eyes will be on whether the Italian can navigate the pressure and force the championship battle into his favour.
