Spanish Football Mourns Death of Tenerife Striker Jesus de Miguel

The Spanish football community is in mourning following the tragic death of Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel, who passed away on Tuesday. The 30-year-old forward died in hospital one day after sustaining critical injuries during a collision in a match against FC Andorra.

Known to his teammates as "Demi," the Madrid-born player was involved in a heavy impact during injury time of the 2-2 draw. While chasing a long ball, he was struck by the opposing goalkeeper who had rushed out of his area. De Miguel collapsed on the pitch and subsequently suffered cardiac arrest, leading to his death the following morning.

A Career Defined by Resilience and Scoring Prowess

De Miguel was widely respected as a hardworking journeyman who dedicated his career to the lower divisions of Spanish football. Standing 1.9 meters tall, the left-footed striker was known for his physical presence and aerial ability. His professional journey began with the Leganes reserve side in 2015, followed by several spells at clubs around the Spanish capital.

His most notable breakthrough arrived in 2023 after joining Castellon, where he netted 16 goals to help the club secure promotion to the second division. After a challenging season in the second tier, he moved to Tenerife in the summer of 2025. He quickly found his form again, scoring six goals in his first five appearances and finishing the campaign with 11 goals, playing a key role in the team's promotion.

Tributes Flow for a Dedicated Professional

The loss has left a profound impact on those who played alongside him. Former teammate Fernando Roman expressed his grief on social media, describing De Miguel as a humble and hardworking individual whom he considered family rather than just a friend. The two shared a close bond, having spent time together with their respective daughters.

Tenerife president Felipe Minambres confirmed that the club is coordinating with the family to transport De Miguel’s body to Navahermosa in the Toledo province for a final farewell. "We need to give Demi the tribute he deserves," Minambres stated. "And from that point on we will always carry him in our hearts." De Miguel is survived by his partner and their young daughter, who was born last year.
