FIFA Plans to Override Football Regulations During 2026 World Cup Final: Here's Why

As the excitement builds towards the conclusion of the FIFA World Cup 2026, three teams—Spain, Argentina, and England—are vying for the prestigious title. Spain secured their place in the final by defeating France in the first semi-final, while Argentina is set to face England in the second semi-final. The championship match will take place at the New Jersey Stadium this Sunday, promising a thrilling showdown.

Star-Studded Closing Ceremony

The final will not only showcase top-tier football but also feature an impressive lineup of global superstars during the closing ceremony. Renowned artists such as Tom Cruise, Laura Pausini, Nicole Scherzinger, Robbie Williams, and IShowSpeed are scheduled to perform. Additionally, the half-time entertainment is expected to be a grand affair, reminiscent of Super Bowl spectacles, with performances by Madonna, Shakira, and the popular K-pop group BTS. Reports suggest that the half-time break may extend to 20 to 25 minutes, deviating from the standard 15-minute duration typically mandated by the International Football Association Board (IFAB).

Historically, the half-time of last year's Club World Cup final, also held in New Jersey, lasted 24 minutes, featuring performances from Coldplay, J Balvin, Doja Cat, Tems, and Emmanuel Kelly, according to BBC reports.

A Celebration of Football and Culture

This Sunday’s event will mark the culmination of the largest sporting event in history, celebrating the remarkable journey of 48 teams across three host nations and 16 cities. Jennifer Hudson, an acclaimed performer with an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Award to her name, will deliver a stirring rendition of the United States national anthem, setting an electrifying tone for the final match.

The closing ceremony, produced in collaboration with Balich Wonder Studio, aims to encapsulate the passion, emotion, and global spirit that have characterized this groundbreaking tournament. Heimo Schirgi, Chief Operating Officer of FIFA World Cup 2026, emphasized that the ceremony will echo the opening festivities, bringing together music, culture, and football to celebrate the event's legacy before the crowning of the new champions.
