Neymar Calls for Support from Santos Fans, Criticizing Their 'Negative' Attitude

In a heated exchange following Santos' 2-1 victory over Ecuador's Macara in the Copa Sudamericana, Brazilian star Neymar expressed his frustration with some fans who booed him during the match. The incident occurred at Vila Belmiro, where Neymar played a pivotal role by providing two assists, helping his team recover from an early setback.

After the match, Neymar addressed the crowd's negativity, particularly during a challenging moment when Santos was trailing 1-0. "What I was saying out there is that we were losing 1-0, and I know the fans have been suffering for many years... but if you're going to keep thinking about that and come to the stadium with a negative mindset, it's better to stay home," he remarked in an interview with ESPN.

The forward further elaborated on his feelings, urging supporters to remain positive. "I told the guy up there: instead of criticizing, there's still 60 minutes left to play, support us... encourage us. Then we turn the game around, I come over to get some water, and he's making a heart sign in the stands... It's easy to be a Santos fan like that... Only liking the guy when he's winning," Neymar added, highlighting the importance of unwavering support from the fans.

Santos' Comeback Performance

The match began on a challenging note for Santos, as Macara's Franco Posse scored just four minutes in, putting the Brazilian side on the back foot. However, Santos gradually regained their composure, with Neymar at the center of their resurgence. He assisted Gabriel Barbosa, who netted the equalizer just before halftime, shifting the momentum in favor of the home team.

In the second half, Neymar continued to influence the game, delivering a corner that was converted by Willian Arao in the 75th minute, sealing the comeback victory for Santos. This performance marked another highlight in Neymar's recent form, bringing his tally to 13 goals and eight assists in his last 24 matches for the club.

Looking Ahead

With this win, Santos heads into the second leg of the round-of-16 tie against Macara with a 2-1 advantage. The team will travel to Ambato next week, where a draw will be sufficient for them to secure a place in the quarter-finals of the tournament. Neymar's contributions will be crucial as Santos aims to maintain their momentum and advance further in the competition.
