Luis Enrique Dismisses PSG's Champions League Dominance Despite 6-0 Thrashing of Villarreal

Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has played down his team's impressive start to the UEFA Champions League campaign, insisting that their current position at the top of the standings is irrelevant to their ultimate goal. Despite overseeing a clinical 6-0 demolition of Villarreal at the Estadio de la Ceramica on Tuesday, the Spanish coach maintained that his sights are set firmly on securing the trophy in the final in Madrid.

The French champions currently boast a perfect record after four matches, having netted a competition-high 20 goals. However, Enrique remains cautious about reading too much into these statistics. Reflecting on past campaigns, he noted that teams have previously secured the title without finishing among the top eight in the league phase, reinforcing his belief that the current points tally does not guarantee success.

A Relentless Attacking Display

PSG dismantled their opponents with a blistering start, effectively ending the contest within the first 17 minutes. Joao Neves initiated the scoring in the ninth minute, followed quickly by Desire Doue in the 12th and Senny Mayulu in the 13th. Fabian Ruiz added a fourth shortly after, leaving the hosts with no path back into the game. Ruiz went on to secure his brace in the 50th minute, while David Boly completed the scoring in the 78th minute.

Enrique attributed the victory to his team's commitment to an attacking philosophy, even when under pressure. He argued that attempting to defend leads often invites trouble, noting that in modern football, teams are capable of scoring multiple goals in a matter of minutes. By maintaining their offensive intensity, PSG avoided the defensive vulnerabilities that ultimately overwhelmed Villarreal.

While pleased with his squad's consistency and their ability to perform regardless of venue or injury concerns, the manager expressed sympathy for Villarreal, a club he admitted to holding in high regard. Despite the lopsided scoreline, the focus for the French side remains on maintaining this momentum as they continue their pursuit of the European title.
