In an official statement following the meeting, the AIFF confirmed, "The federation will allow additional time to Jamshedpur FC to reconsider its decision, with an extended deadline until August 12, 2026." The committee also reviewed the operational planning and progress made by the participating clubs in anticipation of the 2026-27 season.
Strategic Shift for Jamshedpur FC
The Tata group, which owns Jamshedpur FC, has emphasized that the club's exit from the ISL is a strategic move aimed at refocusing on grassroots football development. D B Sundara Ramam, Vice President of Corporate Services at Tata Steel, stated that the decision is not influenced by the uncertainties surrounding the ISL's commercial viability and is unlikely to be reversed.
On July 31, Jamshedpur FC made headlines by announcing its withdrawal from the ISL, shortly after failing to meet the deadline for the participation fee required for the upcoming season. The AIFF had initially set a deadline of July 20 for clubs to pay an administrative fee of Rs 1.1 crore in two installments, which was later extended to July 31.
AIFF's Hope for Reconsideration
During the Executive Committee meeting, chaired by Chaubey, there was a clear sentiment that the AIFF remains hopeful for a change of heart from the Tata-owned club. Chaubey expressed optimism earlier in the day, indicating that the federation would welcome any reconsideration from the legacy corporate entity.
As the ISL season approaches, the AIFF is keen to ensure that all participating clubs are fully engaged and prepared, highlighting the importance of collaboration and operational readiness in the lead-up to the tournament.
