Indian Super League Names Karan Yadav as New Chief Executive Officer

The Indian Super League (ISL) has officially appointed Karan Yadav as its new Chief Executive Officer. This leadership transition marks a significant milestone for India's premier football competition as it moves forward under a newly implemented club-led operational model.

Yadav joins the League Office with an extensive background spanning nearly 20 years in sports, media, marketing, and commercial operations. His professional journey began in 2010 when he co-founded the digital football publication TheHardTackle.com, where he served as Editor-in-Chief and oversaw a global editorial team. His career has since evolved to include senior roles in sports rights management, athlete representation, and commercial strategy.

A New Strategic Direction for the ISL

Before accepting the CEO position, Yadav served as the Chief Commercial Officer at JSW Sports. During his tenure there, he managed a profit-and-loss portfolio exceeding Rs 300 crore, covering various sports franchises, brand consulting, and talent management. His recent work includes shaping the commercial strategy for Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra, overseeing the kitting partnership for Team India at the 2024 Paris Olympics, and playing a central role in the 2025 launch of the Neeraj Chopra Classic, which serves as India’s first global athletics intellectual property.

In his new capacity as CEO, Yadav is tasked with steering the strategic and commercial evolution of the ISL. He will work in close coordination with the All-India Football Federation (AIFF) and the league's various clubs to foster a more cohesive environment. His mandate includes strengthening relationships with broadcasters and sponsors, while simultaneously building a high-performing League Office designed to ensure the long-term sustainability of the competition.

Reflecting on his appointment, Yadav noted that the transition to a club-led model provides a robust foundation for the league's future. He emphasized that his primary focus will be on deepening fan engagement, enhancing the league's commercial and broadcast propositions, and creating a sustainable growth environment for all participating clubs. As the first CEO to operate under this specific club-led structure, Yadav is expected to play a pivotal role in aligning the interests of the League Office with those of the individual clubs to advance the broader Indian football ecosystem.
