Organisers Slash India vs Uruguay Ticket Prices by 90 Percent to Boost Attendance

Organisers have announced a drastic 90 percent reduction in ticket prices for India’s upcoming international friendly against Uruguay. The decision follows a disappointing turnout at the Salt Lake Stadium on October 3, where the venue remained significantly under-capacity during India's match against Brazil.

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) confirmed the price revision on Sunday, revealing that tickets for the C2 Left and C2 Right blocks have been slashed from Rs 1,999 to just Rs 99. This move is a clear attempt to encourage higher attendance after only 51,000 spectators turned out for the Brazil fixture, despite the stadium's total capacity of 85,000.

Uruguay Squad Arrives for Kolkata Clash

The visiting Uruguay side, a two-time world champion, arrived in Kolkata on September 30 to begin their preparations for the October 6 encounter. The squad, which was officially announced on September 5, features a blend of high-profile European-based stars and promising young talent.

Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde headlines the selection, supported by a strong contingent of international regulars including Rodrigo Bentancur, Lucas Torreira, and Giorgian de Arrascaeta. The defensive unit is equally experienced, featuring names such as Ronald Araujo, Jose Maria Gimenez, and Mathias Olivera. In the attacking third, Darwin Nunez leads a forward line that also includes Miguel Merentiel, Federico Vinas, and Alvaro Rodriguez.

India Looks to Rebound After Brazil Defeat

The Indian national team enters the match looking to recover from a 0-4 loss to Brazil last Saturday. While the previous fixture against the five-time World Cup winners drew significant attention due to the presence of global stars like Vinicius Jr. and Marquinhos, the empty seats at the Salt Lake Stadium proved to be a point of concern for organisers.

With the price adjustment now in effect, officials are hopeful that the local crowd will turn out in larger numbers to support the national side as they face a formidable Uruguay outfit. The match is scheduled for October 6, marking the conclusion of a high-profile international window for the Indian team.
