East Bengal Makes History in Indian Football with a Stunning 12-0 Victory in the AFC Women's Champions League

East Bengal FC achieved a remarkable feat on Thursday, securing a staggering 12-0 victory against Rovers FC from Guam during the preliminary stage of the AFC Women's Champions League 2026-27 held in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia. This victory marks a historic moment for Indian football, as it represents the largest margin of victory for any Indian club in an Asian competition, surpassing the previous record of 9-0 set by East Bengal's men's team against Club Valencia from the Maldives in the 1985-86 Asian Club Championship.

Path to Victory

The win places East Bengal just one match away from advancing to the group stage, with their next challenge set against Sabah FA from Malaysia on Sunday. The team had already demonstrated their dominance in the tournament with a 4-0 win over Rajshahi Stars FC from Bangladesh in their opening match. East Bengal wasted no time asserting their control in the match against Rovers, taking the lead in the sixth minute. Priyangka Devi Naorem's shot from just outside the box struck the left post before finding the back of the net, setting the tone for the rest of the game.

Rovers goalkeeper Jae Almonte faced further challenges as she allowed a rebound from Anju Chanu Kayenpaibam's shot in the 15th minute, which Astam Oraon quickly capitalized on to score the second goal. East Bengal's relentless attack continued, with Priyangka adding her second goal in the 22nd minute, skillfully lifting the ball over the stranded Almonte after breaking into the box.

Second Half Surge

After the halftime break, East Bengal maintained their aggressive approach. Sulanjana Raul initiated the scoring in the second half, dribbling into the box and delivering a cross that was deflected to Olivia Anokye, who scored from close range in the 48th minute. Just a minute later, Soumya Guguloth's precise cross found Abigail Antwi, allowing her to head in the fifth goal for East Bengal.

Jae was again tested in the 51st minute, where she parried a curling shot from Shilky Devi Hemam, only for Sulanjana to convert the rebound. Shilky then scored herself in the 56th minute with a powerful shot into the top-left corner. Olivia netted her second goal shortly after, followed by Abena Opoku's thumping strike in the 64th minute, further extending East Bengal's lead. The scoring frenzy concluded with additional goals from Abena, Anju, and Soumya, sealing a historic 12-0 victory for the team.
