In a thrilling display of resilience, East Bengal staged a remarkable comeback to defeat Kuwait’s Al Arabi 4-1 in extra time, securing their spot in the AFC Champions League Two group stage. The match took place at the Salt Lake Stadium on Wednesday, where the home team faced a daunting challenge after falling behind late in the second half.

Al Arabi took the lead in the 76th minute when Anayo Iwuala converted a penalty kick, awarded after Sandip Mandi fouled Kenean Maleko in the box. Iwuala's powerful shot found the bottom-left corner, leaving East Bengal's goalkeeper, Prabhsukhan Gill, unable to make the save despite diving in the right direction. Prior to this, East Bengal had a golden opportunity to score when Bipin Singh missed a clear chance in the 50th minute, failing to capitalize on a well-placed pass from Jesin Thonikkara. In the 90th minute, Jay Gupta connected with a free-kick delivered by Mohammed Rashid, sending a powerful header past Al Arabi's goalkeeper, Sulaiman Abdulghafoor. This goal not only leveled the score but also revitalized East Bengal's spirit, shifting the momentum in their favor as the match proceeded to extra time.

During the additional 30 minutes, East Bengal showcased their dominance, taking the lead in the 108th minute. Captain Rashid seized on a loose ball at the edge of the box, executing a stunning half-volley that beat Abdulghafoor. Although Al Arabi attempted to respond, with Zeid Qunbar creating a potential scoring opportunity, Mandi intervened effectively to thwart the attack. East Bengal extended their lead in the 117th minute when substitute David Lalhlansanga found space in the box and finished calmly, making the score 3-1. Rohit Danu capped off the impressive comeback in stoppage time, tapping in a pass from Lalhlansanga after the latter skillfully maneuvered around the goalkeeper.
