Como delivered a stunning offensive masterclass on Wednesday, dismantling Lens 9-1 to etch their name into the Champions League record books. In a dominant display that saw them become the first away team in the competition's history to score nine goals in a single fixture, Cesc Fabregas’ side continued their impressive debut campaign.

The result marks a significant milestone for the club, which has now secured three victories in their opening four matches of the league phase. This emphatic performance propelled Como to fourth in the overall standings, leaving their manager reflecting on a rare and clinical outing. “Today everything went our way,” Fabregas noted following the final whistle. “A great night for Como and our fans.”

A Record-Breaking Night in Europe

The nine-goal haul surpassed the previous record for an away team in the Champions League, which was held by Bayern Munich following their 8-2 victory over Barcelona in Lisbon in 2020. The margin of victory also equalled the largest in the competition's history, matching the 8-0 home wins previously recorded by Liverpool against Besiktas and Real Madrid against Malmo.

Leading the charge was Tasos Douvikas, who netted a hat trick to maintain his remarkable form. Having scored in every one of Como’s four matches so far, Douvikas currently sits at the top of the Champions League scoring charts with six goals. The team’s collective output has been equally historic; with 19 goals scored across their first four major European matches, Como has equalled the record set by Queens Park Rangers back in 1976.

The scoring was spread across the squad, with Lucas Da Cunha, Marc-Oliver Kempf, Mattia Liberali, Martina Baturina, and Matteo Papaccioli all finding the back of the net. For the 18-year-old Papaccioli, the goal capped a memorable appearance, as the youth team player has yet to make his debut in Serie A. Nico Paz also contributed to the tally, using his celebration to pay tribute to Jesús de Miguel, a Tenerife forward who recently passed away following an on-field collision. Paz, who spent time in the Tenerife youth system between 2014 and 2016, displayed a T-shirt featuring the late player’s image after scoring.
