Tavengwa Mukuhlani Appointed as New ICC Deputy Chairperson

Tavengwa Mukuhlani has been appointed as the new deputy chairperson of the International Cricket Council (ICC). The decision was confirmed on Thursday by the ICC Board of Directors, with Mukuhlani set to serve in the position until November 2027.

The appointment sees the Zimbabwe Cricket chairperson succeed Singapore’s Imran Khwaja, who has departed from the board. Mukuhlani’s elevation to the role marks a notable development for African cricket, particularly as Zimbabwe prepares to co-host the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup alongside South Africa and Namibia.

ICC chairman Jay Shah welcomed the appointment, highlighting the value Mukuhlani will bring to the governing body. Shah noted that Mukuhlani has earned the confidence of his fellow directors and emphasized the importance of his experience in cricket administration and his commitment to the global development of the sport. The chairman also acknowledged the significance of the appointment for Zimbabwe, as Mukuhlani becomes the first individual from the nation to hold the deputy chair position.

Mukuhlani stated that he is eager to support the board in its efforts to grow the game and create more opportunities for member nations. With his term running through November 2027, his tenure will coincide with a critical period for the sport, encompassing both the hosting of the Men's Cricket World Cup in Africa and the continued efforts to expand cricket's global footprint.
