India Cricketer Prithvi Shaw and Akriti Agarwal Announce Split Months After Engagement

Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw and his fiancee, Akriti Agarwal, have confirmed the end of their relationship. The couple, who had announced their engagement earlier this year, have decided to go their separate ways, citing differing personal goals and circumstances as the primary reasons for the split.

Agarwal, a social media personality and actress, shared the news through a statement on her social media channels this Thursday. In her message, she emphasised that the decision was reached mutually and requested that the public respect their privacy as they navigate this transition. She also urged followers to avoid speculation regarding the specific details behind their separation.

A Mutual Decision to Move Forward

In her public statement, Agarwal expressed the difficulty of the situation, noting that while the couple still holds care and love for one another, they have come to the realisation that their paths are no longer aligned. She stated that the decision was made with a heavy heart, acknowledging that their respective responsibilities and current life circumstances necessitated this change in direction.

The couple had previously shared their engagement with the public on March 8, marking the occasion with a series of romantic photographs. At the time, Shaw had shared images of the proposal, including a shot of him on one knee, accompanied by a caption that celebrated the milestone. Following the recent announcement of their separation, Shaw has removed the engagement-related content from his personal social media profile.

Career Context for the Batter

The end of the engagement comes during a challenging period for the 26-year-old cricketer, who has been working to re-establish his form in domestic and franchise cricket. Shaw, who made his international debut for India in 2018 with a century against the West Indies, has faced several professional hurdles in recent years.

His recent career trajectory has seen significant fluctuations. In the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, Shaw was signed by the Delhi Capitals for Rs 75 lakh during the accelerated round, though he did not feature in any matches throughout the 2026 season. Additionally, his domestic career saw a notable change in October 2024, when he was released from the Mumbai Ranji Trophy squad. Since that time, the right-handed batter has continued his domestic participation representing Maharashtra.
