Australian cricket star Steve Smith has been ruled out of action until the home Test series against New Zealand in December. The 37-year-old batter was forced to withdraw from the ongoing third Test against South Africa in Cape Town after medical scans revealed a cervical facet joint injury in his neck.
The injury first became apparent during the fourth day of the second Test in Gqeberha last week. Following the discomfort, Smith underwent MRI imaging, which confirmed the diagnosis. Cricket Australia confirmed that the limited range of motion caused by the injury rendered him unfit to participate in the series decider, with the player now set to undergo a period of treatment and rehabilitation.

Stepping into the middle order, Inglis finished the day unbeaten on 85, helping Australia reach 330/4 in response to South Africa’s first-innings total of 329. His contribution proved vital in keeping the visitors in the contest as they ended the day with a slender one-run lead.
Inglis received support from Matt Renshaw, who contributed 74, and Cameron Green, who added 65. Alex Carey also remained at the crease alongside Inglis, ending the day on 51 not out. The innings saw a rare failure for Marnus Labuschagne, who was dismissed for a duck. Renshaw later praised Inglis for his composure under pressure, noting that his positive approach was exactly what the team required after losing two quick wickets.
