Smriti Mandhana achieved a significant career milestone during India's Women's Asia Cup opening match against Thailand on Sunday. By hitting her first boundary of the innings, the prolific opener moved past New Zealand legend Suzie Bates to claim second place on the all-time list for most runs in women's international cricket.

Mandhana now sits behind only former India captain Mithali Raj, who holds the record with 10,868 career runs. Following her performance against Thailand, where she scored 19 runs off 10 deliveries before being run out, Mandhana’s total international tally reached 10,756 runs. This impressive figure comprises 788 runs in Tests, 5,411 in ODIs, and 4,557 in T20Is, highlighting her sustained impact across all three formats of the game.

India looked poised for a massive total at 108/2, but Thailand’s bowling attack mounted a spirited comeback to restrict the scoring, eventually reducing India to 137/9. Debutant Pratika Rawal provided steady support with 22 runs from 18 balls, while Kranti Gaud added a crucial unbeaten 15 to help push the final total to 159/9.
