In January 2023, at the age of 23 years and 132 days, he became the youngest player to score an ODI double century, finishing unbeaten on 208 against New Zealand. His dominance has extended to the Indian Premier League, where he holds the record for the highest individual score in playoff history, having struck 129 off 60 balls for the Gujarat Titans against the Mumbai Indians in 2023. Furthermore, he became the youngest player to reach 4,000 IPL runs at 26 years and 216 days during the 2026 season.
Gill’s transition into the Test captaincy has been equally notable. During the tour of England, he produced a standout performance at Edgbaston, scoring 269 and 161. His aggregate of 430 runs in that match stands as the highest by an Indian batter in a single Test, and the second-highest in Test history.
