Indian all-rounder
Jadeja’s inclusion comes following his participation in India's recent 2-1 ODI series victory over the West Indies, where he featured in two matches and claimed two wickets. The upcoming domestic fixture provides the left-arm spinner with an opportunity to transition back to the longer format before the international series begins in Wellington on November 19.
Saurashtra aim for resurgence under Unadkat
Saurashtra, who secured the Ranji Trophy title in both the 2019-20 and 2022-23 seasons, are looking to rebound after a disappointing group-stage exit last year.
The squad for the opening clash at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot features a blend of experience and new talent. While the team will be without left-arm spinner Dharmendrasinh Jadeja, who has transferred to Chhattisgarh, the bowling attack remains bolstered by the presence of Chetan Sakariya alongside captain Unadkat. Parth Bhut is expected to shoulder the primary spin-bowling responsibilities for the team.
Squad depth and tournament context
The 92nd edition of the Ranji Trophy, which commences on October 11, sees Saurashtra placed in Elite Group B alongside Karnataka, Punjab, Andhra, Assam, Hyderabad, and Tripura. The team has opted for stability, retaining 14 players from the previous campaign while introducing pacer Neel Pandya and all-rounder Arth Yadav to the 16-member roster.
The batting lineup will rely on the experience of Arpit Vasavada, Chirag Jani, and Jay Gohil, with Harvik Desai confirmed to handle wicketkeeping duties. Following the opener against Chhattisgarh, Saurashtra will look to establish a strong start in the group stage before the international schedule takes precedence for their marquee players. The Test series against New Zealand is set to conclude with the second match in Christchurch, running from November 27 to December 1.
