Peter Handscomb and Jhye Richardson headline Australia A squad for India tour

Cricket Australia has confirmed its Australia A squads for the upcoming tour of India, with veteran batter Peter Handscomb headlining the red-ball selection. The 35-year-old, who has not featured for the national side since the 2023 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, will lead the group as he seeks to press his claims for a Test recall ahead of future assignments in the subcontinent.

The tour, which includes a four-day fixture in Puducherry followed by three 50-over matches, is viewed by national selectors as a critical development opportunity. By exposing players to Indian conditions, the board aims to identify those capable of contributing to the senior team's future success in the region.

The one-day squad includes young fast bowler Mahli Beardman, who remains under careful management following back stress issues. Beardman, who impressed on his T20I debut against Pakistan in Lahore earlier this year, is joined by players such as Sam Harper and Jason Sangha. Notably, the squads exclude Kurtis Patterson and Marnus Labuschagne.
