The honour was bestowed upon Dhir by India’s strength and conditioning coach, Adrian Le Roux. In a video shared by the BCCI, the coaching staff highlighted the player's ability to step up and take responsibility for the side throughout the five-match contest. Reflecting on the achievement, Dhir expressed his satisfaction, noting that the individual recognition was made even more meaningful by the team's overall success in the series.
A Consistent Force in the Middle Order
Dhir’s primary impact came through his aggressive batting, as he accumulated 138 runs across the series. He made an immediate impression in the opening T20I, where he smashed an unbeaten 42 off just 15 deliveries to provide a late-innings surge. This momentum continued into the second match, where he contributed a brisk 31 from 17 balls.
While he faced a quieter outing in the third match, he played a significant role by striking the winning boundary that secured the series for India with two games to spare. He maintained his scoring rate in the final stages of the tour, adding 28 off 13 balls in the fourth game and 33 off 23 deliveries in the series finale. Although his bowling was limited to two overs without a wicket, his presence in the field and his ability to accelerate the scoring in high-pressure situations established him as a key asset in the middle order.
Building Momentum for the ODI Leg
Having made his international debut against the West Indies in Lucknow last month, Dhir has quickly become a regular feature in the white-ball setup. With 10 T20Is and three ODIs now under his belt, the all-rounder is strengthening his case for consistent selection across formats. His versatility as a middle-order batter who can provide part-time spin has made him a valuable inclusion for the team management.
India concluded the T20I series with a 3-2 result, having initially dominated the first three matches before New Zealand fought back in the final two encounters. With the T20I portion of the tour now complete, the squad is shifting its focus to the upcoming ODI series. The first of these matches is set to take place in Auckland this Wednesday.
