Gondaria Masterclass Leads Kenya to Comfortable Victory

Kenya secured a convincing eight-wicket win over Uganda in Match 9 of the Africa Continental Cup at the Gahanga Cricket Stadium Oval B in Kigali. Chasing a challenging target of 190, Kenya relied on a spectacular display of power-hitting from Dhiren Gondaria, who anchored the innings with a blistering 94 off just 47 balls to guide his side home with plenty to spare.

The match began with Kenya captain winning the toss and opting to bowl first. Uganda started with intent, posting a competitive total of 189/6 in their allotted 20 overs. Olipa Gerald led the charge for the batting side, striking a fluent 53 off 38 balls, while Riazat Ali Shah provided valuable support with a quick-fire 45 off 29 deliveries. Despite their efforts, Kenya’s bowling attack remained disciplined throughout the innings. Sachin Gill was the standout performer with the ball, claiming impressive figures of 3/26 from his four overs to keep the Ugandan scoring rate in check during the middle stages.

A Clinical Chase at Gahanga

Kenya’s pursuit of 190 faced an early setback when Rushab Patel fell with the score at 25 in just 2.2 overs. However, any hopes Uganda had of building pressure were quickly extinguished by a dominant partnership. Dhiren Gondaria took control of the crease, dismantling the opposition bowling attack with a relentless display of stroke play. His 94-run knock, supported by Rakep Patel, ensured that Kenya stayed well ahead of the required run rate.

By the time the winning runs were hit, Kenya had reached 193/2, comfortably surpassing the target. Gondaria was deservedly named Player of the Match for his match-defining innings. Alongside his efforts, the contributions of Sachin Gill and Lucas Oluoch were instrumental in ensuring Kenya maintained their momentum throughout the contest. The result marks a significant performance for Kenya in the ongoing Africa Continental Cup, showcasing their ability to chase down high totals under pressure.
