Jos Buttler endorses young Indian talent Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to surpass his T20 run record.

NEW DELHI: In a remarkable turn of events, England's Jos Buttler has recently become the highest run-scorer in men's T20 cricket, a feat he achieved during a thrilling match in The Hundred. Following his record-setting performance, Buttler has identified a young Indian talent, 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, as a potential future contender for his title.

Buttler's historic achievement unfolded on Wednesday when he led the Manchester Super Giants to a resounding nine-wicket victory over Welsh Fire. In a dazzling display, he scored an unbeaten 51 runs off just 20 balls, surpassing the previous record held by West Indies great Kieron Pollard. In a post-match interview with Sky Sports, Buttler expressed his pride in achieving this record while also acknowledging the transient nature of such milestones. "It's really cool, actually, to think you've got the most T20 runs out of anyone. Someone will surpass it one day - and his name's probably [Vaibhav] Sooryavanshi - but it's a proud moment," he stated. This endorsement comes on the heels of Sooryavanshi's impressive performances, including a standout role in India's recent 3-0 T20I series victory over Zimbabwe, where he scored 151 runs and earned the Player of the Series award.

Earlier this year, Sooryavanshi also shone at the ICC Men's Under-19 Cricket World Cup, finishing as the tournament's leading scorer with 439 runs and receiving the Player of the Tournament accolade. His rapid ascent in the cricketing world has garnered attention, positioning him as one of the sport's most promising young players.

The record-breaking moment for Buttler was nothing short of spectacular, taking place at Old Trafford. Chasing a target of 156 runs, he showcased his explosive batting skills by hitting two fours and six sixes, reaching the milestone by striking Marco Jansen for three consecutive sixes. This performance not only eclipsed Pollard's previous record of 14,803 runs but also placed Buttler ahead of Chris Gayle, who now ranks third with 14,562 runs in 463 matches.

Reflecting on his achievement, Buttler noted that he would have preferred to break the record in a match where Pollard was present, highlighting the respect he holds for the former West Indies star. "We played against MI London last game and it would have been nice to get past Polly while he was there, sat in the dugout," he remarked.
