As India prepares for its first Test match against Sri Lanka in Galle on August 15, bowling coach
In addition to Siraj, India will rely on Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar, and newly called-up Auqib Nabi to bolster their pace attack. Morkel emphasized the need for the bowlers to adapt quickly to the conditions, particularly in managing the new ball effectively before it begins to soften. “Our skill is there, and the planning will be there, but the biggest challenge coming to Sri Lanka is the heat, the humidity, and the Kookaburra ball going soft a little earlier,” Morkel stated during a pre-match press conference. He noted that the ball is likely to lose its hardness after 25 to 30 overs, which will require a shift in strategy for the fast bowlers.
Adapting to Conditions
Morkel highlighted the importance of maintaining intensity and building pressure throughout the match. He pointed out that as the game progresses, bowlers may encounter uneven bounce, which could create opportunities if they can sustain their energy and focus. “It’s about how we can stack up overs together with intensity and create that pressure because we haven’t played a lot of red-ball cricket in the last couple of months; going back into that is going to be a challenge as well,” he added.
