DDCA Confirms India vs Afghanistan T20I to Proceed as Scheduled in Delhi

The Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA) has officially confirmed that the opening T20 International between India and Afghanistan will proceed as planned on September 13. The fixture, set to be hosted at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, had faced a period of uncertainty following requests from the Delhi Police to reschedule the match due to the significant security demands posed by the concurrent BRICS Summit in the capital.

Following high-level discussions with the Delhi Traffic Police, the DDCA issued a statement on Thursday evening to clarify that the match remains on the original calendar. The association expressed confidence in the security arrangements, noting that they have received assurances of full support from local law enforcement to ensure the event proceeds without disruption.

India enters the series under the leadership of captain Shreyas Iyer, with Tilak Varma serving as the vice-captain. The Indian squad features a blend of experienced campaigners and emerging talent, including Jasprit Bumrah, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Axar Patel, and the young Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The bowling attack is further bolstered by the inclusion of Ravi Bishnoi, Varun Chakravarthy, Arshdeep Singh, and Yash Thakur.

Afghanistan, captained by opening batter Ibrahim Zadran, has named a formidable squad for the tour. Their roster includes several key players known for their impact in the shortest format, such as Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, and Rahmanullah Gurbaz. The visitors have also included Azmatullah Omarzai, Naveen-ul-Haq, and Fazalhaq Farooqi, rounding out a side that relies heavily on a potent spin-bowling contingent.
