Howdy, folks? England certainly enjoyed a far more satisfying lunch. Not for the first time, though, Pakistan could not say the same. Their quicks have been relentless and will look to skittle a Pakistan side that is extremely low on confidence. They will aim to tear through the tail, which, in all honesty, looks like low-hanging fruit. Pakistan's rearguard depends on how long Shakeel stays at the crease and who turns up to support him from the other end. Speed, accuracy, discipline - Amid all that ruthlessness, a touch of fortune has also played its part. Ben Duckett has let slip a couple of catches he or anyone else would normally hold on to, and Saud Shakeel, dropped early on seven, has capitalised on his second chance, battling away on what appears to be an entirely different surface compared with everyone around him. He has played some delightful strokes in his brisk 37, but has found no stability from the other end whatsoever. Still, credit where it is due, the manner in which England have hammered away stump to stump, refusing to offer width or respite, has been the real story of this session. A perfect lesson in disciplined, relentless seam bowling that Pakistan simply haven't had an answer for.

Cat on a hot tin roof - Grey skies, a chill in the air and overcast conditions that practically screamed seam bowling, and England made sure not to waste a single ounce of it. Archer and Robinson brought their usual fire and fury, leaving Pakistan gobsmacked and reeling at 26 for 4, before Tongue rubbed further salt into the tourists' wounds by eventually snaring Babar's wicket as well. It's been mayhem from ball one, the kind of morning session that has left a touring Pakistan side wondering what exactly they did to deserve it.

Wicket after wicket, action at every turn, yet none of it favouring Pakistan, as England have made a complete mockery of a batting unit that has looked desperately fragile from ball one.
