... THE RUN CHASE ...
Ratnayake rescues the day - Enter Tharindu Ratnayake, who took charge and dragged the score from 54 for 5 to 147 for 6, bringing up his maiden T20I half-century along the way. The lower middle order chipped in to lift Sri Lanka to a commendable 160, far beyond what looked possible at the start. Bangladesh now have a target of 161 to chase for bronze, and with Sri Lanka's bowlers having something to defend, this one is far from done. Stay tuned as the second chapter of this story unfolds soon.
A flicker of hope, snuffed out - Sahan Arachchige and Ashen Bandara steadied the ship with a fifth-wicket stand that finally gave Sri Lanka something to cheer about. But just as the recovery looked promising, Rishad Hossain struck to break the partnership, leaving Sri Lanka 54 for 5 and staring at a modest total.
Spin carnage, then a lone stand - Bangladesh's spin department was all over Sri Lanka's batting unit, but it was Tharindu Ratnayake who stood against the odds and helped his team to post a commendable total of 165 on the board. Sri Lanka's innings unravelled early, with the first wicket falling in the third over and the rest tumbling soon after. The Bangladesh spinners were all over the top order, and by the end of the powerplay the Lankans were gasping at 29 for 4.
A couple of runs to end, and Sri Lanka finish with a very solid total of 165/9 on the board. Flighted up, angling it across off. Nuwan Thushara reaches for it and slices it off the toe end of the bat and to the right of long off for a couple of quick runs.
Nuwan Thushara is the last batter for Sri Lanka.
OUT! TIMBER! Flatter one from Saif Hassan, sliding it across the right-hander, from middle to off. Vijayakanth Viyaskanth backs away a bit and has a big swing across the line and ends up missing the ball. The ball then goes on to castle into the stumps and Sri Lanka are now 9 down for 163.
SIX! Oh, that should have been another wicket for Saif Hassan. Flighted ball on middle and leg, swung away down to deep mid-wicket. Mahedi Hasan is right on the ropes and takes a good catch, but he takes a step back and ends up placing his foot on the boundary ropes.
Vijayakanth Viyaskanth is in next.
OUT! BOWLED! Quicker through the air, just outside off and darting it back in. Sahan Arachchige sits down to slog sweep it away but he's played all over it, and misses. The ball crashes into the off pole and the skipper has to walk back after a solid knock.
