Four Indian Stars Shortlisted for ICC Player of the Month Awards

India’s international cricket stars have dominated the latest ICC Player of the Month shortlists for September, with four players earning nominations following a series of exceptional performances. Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma have been recognized in the men’s category, while Shafali Verma and Shree Charani represent India on the women’s shortlist.

The nominations highlight a month of significant achievements, ranging from record-breaking batting displays to match-winning bowling efforts. The Indian contingent faces competition from Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza and Sri Lanka skipper Chamari Athapaththu, who have also been acknowledged for their respective contributions on the global stage.

Men’s Nominees: Gill and Sharma Lead the Charge

Shubman Gill is in the running for a potential fifth ICC Player of the Month award after a prolific September in ODIs against the West Indies. The Indian captain amassed 333 runs across two matches, highlighted by a century in the series opener in Thiruvananthapuram. His standout performance included a 223-run knock off 133 balls, which stands as the fastest ODI double-century and was instrumental in India successfully chasing down a target of 406.

Joining him is Abhishek Sharma, whose explosive form in T20Is earned him a nomination. Sharma scored 229 runs in four matches during the month, most notably against Afghanistan. In that fixture, he smashed 108 runs from just 34 balls, completing a century in only 30 deliveries. This feat established him as the fastest Indian to score a T20I century, eclipsing the previous record of 35 balls held by Rohit Sharma.

Women’s Nominees: Verma and Charani Shine

Shafali Verma’s inclusion follows a dominant run in the Women’s Asia Cup, where she finished as the leading run-scorer. Across the month, she accumulated 360 runs at a strike rate of 184.61 while also contributing six wickets. Her form extended to the Asian Games, where she struck an unbeaten 100 against Bangladesh in the semi-final and added 48 runs in the gold-medal match against Sri Lanka.

Spinner Shree Charani also earned a nomination for her remarkable consistency. She claimed 18 wickets in seven T20Is throughout September, maintaining an economy rate of 3.30. Her performance in the Asian Games final, where she recorded figures of 2/13, helped secure the gold medal for India. This effort propelled her to 817 rating points, marking the highest rating ever recorded in the ICC Women’s T20I bowling rankings.
