England's cricket team has welcomed
Carse's Road to Recovery
Carse had been out of action since sustaining wrist and elbow injuries while batting in the nets for Sunrisers Hyderabad prior to the commencement of IPL 2026. This injury kept him sidelined for several months, but he has since made significant progress in his rehabilitation. To evaluate his readiness for international competition, the England selectors observed his performances in the Vitality Blast, where he played three matches for Durham. This call-up marks Carse's first inclusion in an ODI squad since England's tour of New Zealand in November 2025. Throughout his career, the right-arm seamer has participated in 30 ODIs, taking 34 wickets.
With his fitness restored, Carse is now eligible for selection in the upcoming fixtures, with the second ODI set to take place in Cardiff on Thursday, July 16, followed by the series finale at Lord's on Sunday, July 19.
India Ends England's Streak
In the first ODI, India ended England's impressive 12-year unbeaten streak in Men's ODIs at Edgbaston, securing a convincing six-wicket victory. The home team started strong, reaching 61 runs without losing a wicket, but a sudden collapse ensued as India's bowlers took control, leaving England struggling at 80 for 5. Joe Root played a crucial role in stabilizing the innings, scoring an unbeaten 76, while Liam Dawson contributed a valuable 68. Their partnership of 111 runs helped England recover to a total of 258 before being bowled out.
Axar Patel was instrumental for India, claiming four wickets and dismantling England's batting order with impressive figures of 4 for 62. In response, India's innings was anchored by captain Shubman Gill, who scored 80 before retiring due to cramps. Although India faced a brief setback at 160 for 4, Axar Patel and Washington Sundar combined forces to secure the win, putting together an unbroken 102-run partnership. Axar finished with 57 not out, while Sundar remained unbeaten on 52, leading India to victory with 28 balls to spare.
