Mitchell Starc leads Australia to a stunning victory, bowling out Bangladesh for just 64 following a disastrous match in Darwin.

In a remarkable turnaround, Australia showcased their bowling prowess on the first day of the second Test against Bangladesh in Mackay, dismissing the visitors for a mere 64 runs. This performance came after a disappointing nine-wicket loss in the opening Test held in Darwin. Winning the toss, Australian captain Pat Cummins opted to bowl first, a decision that paid off handsomely as Mitchell Starc delivered a stunning display of fast bowling.

Starc's exceptional performance saw him claim six wickets for just 12 runs, marking the sixth-fastest five-wicket haul in Test history. The Bangladesh batting lineup crumbled under pressure, finding themselves in dire straits early in the match. Within the first session, Starc had already taken five wickets, leaving Bangladesh reeling at 12 for 5 before they limped to lunch at 35 for 6.

Starc's Historic Start

The left-arm pacer made an immediate impact, striking with the very first ball of the match to dismiss opener Shadman Islam. The delivery moved in before veering away, resulting in an edge that was comfortably caught by Cameron Green at gully. This marked the fourth occasion Starc has taken a wicket with the first ball of a Test innings, following similar feats against Dimuth Karunaratne, Rory Burns, and Yashasvi Jaiswal in previous matches. Notably, Shadman became only the second Bangladeshi opener to be dismissed on the first ball of a Test innings, a fate previously suffered by Hannan Sarkar.

Starc continued his onslaught, claiming Tanzid Hasan's wicket in his next over, with the batsman guiding a delivery to Beau Webster at second slip. Tanzid, who had scored a century in the previous Test, faced a second consecutive duck. Bangladesh's captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto, was then trapped lbw by Starc, who narrowly missed out on a hat-trick when Mominul Haque edged a wide delivery to Green for his fourth wicket. Starc's fifth wicket came shortly after when Litton Das was given out lbw for a duck, despite a dropped catch just prior.

Bangladesh's Struggles Continue

Bangladesh's total of 12 for 5 marked their lowest score after losing five wickets in a Test innings. Following the collapse, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mehidy Hasan Miraz attempted to stabilize the innings, but their resistance was short-lived. Cummins eventually broke the partnership by bowling Mushfiqur for five runs. He also dismissed Mehidy for 11, caught in the slips, and later took the wicket of Taskin Ahmed for just one run. Josh Hazlewood contributed by claiming Hasan Mahmud for 10 runs.

Despite the top order's dismal performance, Bangladesh's lower order managed to push the total past 50 runs. However, Starc returned to the attack to wrap up the innings, having Shoriful Islam caught behind for 14 runs, concluding Bangladesh's innings at a paltry 64.
