Coming off the back of a runner-up finish at the French Open, Sindhu maintained her momentum by securing a dominant 21-9, 21-6 victory. Having previously dispatched Prakriti Bharath in the opening round, Sindhu is now set to face Amalie Schulz for a place in the semifinals.
Mixed Results for Indian Contingent in Germany
While Sindhu progressed with ease, the day proved difficult for other Indian hopefuls in the women's singles draw. Malvika Bansod saw her campaign come to an end following a 11-21, 17-21 defeat to Canada's Wen Yu Zhang. Although Bansod showed signs of recovery in the second game, she was unable to overcome the intensity set by her opponent, with the match concluding in 31 minutes.
Isharani Baruah also faced an early exit after a competitive encounter against Denmark's eighth seed, Line Hojmark Kjaersfeldt. Despite a spirited effort in the second game, Baruah ultimately fell 14-21, 19-21 in a 39-minute battle. The Danish player managed to hold her composure during the critical stages of the match to prevent a decider.
The tournament continues for the remaining Indian players, with sixth seed Unnati Hooda scheduled to face Denmark's Frederikke Ostergaard. In the men's singles category, top-ranked Indian player Lakshya Sen is set to compete against compatriot Kiran George in an all-Indian second-round clash. Additionally, Anmol Kharb is slated to take on the third-seeded Danish shuttler, Line Christophersen, as the competition intensifies.
