Krishna Prasad Garaga and Pruthvi Krishnamurthy Roy Upset Fifth Seeds at Arctic Open

Indian men's doubles pair Krishna Prasad Garaga and Pruthvi Krishnamurthy Roy delivered a standout performance at the Arctic Open Super 500 in Vantaa, Finland, on Wednesday. The duo secured a significant upset by defeating the fifth-seeded Chinese combination of He Ji Ting and Ren Xiang Yu to advance to the second round of the tournament.

The match proved to be a test of resilience for the Indian pair. After dropping the opening game 10-21, Garaga and Krishnamurthy Roy mounted a spirited comeback. They leveled the contest by taking the second game 21-18 and ultimately clinched the match in a tense decider, winning 22-20. This victory marks a notable achievement for the pair, who previously enjoyed success in May with consecutive titles at the Saint-Denis Reunion Open and the VI Mexican International Challenge.

HS Prannoy Suffers Early Exit

While the men's doubles team celebrated a major win, the day proved difficult for HS Prannoy. The 34-year-old, who recently competed as part of the Asian Games contingent, was unable to find his rhythm against fourth-seeded Anders Antonsen of Denmark. Prannoy fell to a 10-21, 9-21 defeat, marking another setback in what has been a challenging season for the player.

Broader Indian Campaign in Vantaa

The Arctic Open has seen mixed results for the Indian contingent thus far. Earlier in the week, Tanvi Sharma successfully navigated her opening match, defeating Taiwan's Chiu Pin Chian 21-15, 21-17 to progress to the second round. Conversely, Isharani Baruah faced a tough draw against top seed Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand, ultimately exiting the competition following a 10-21, 15-21 loss.

The tournament continues with further Indian representation on the courts. Upcoming fixtures include Tharun Mannepalli facing Denmark's Magnus Johannesen, Rounak Chouhan taking on China's Weng Hong Yang, and Kidambi Srikanth scheduled to play Canada's Brian Yang.
