Resilience Beyond the Court
The impact of his illness extended beyond physical changes, profoundly affecting Bjorkler's mental outlook. "Of course, it affects you mostly mentally, I think, and it gives you another perspective on life as a whole," he remarked. This newfound perspective has instilled in him a deep appreciation for health and the ability to lead a normal life. Even as he resumed the rigors of professional badminton, Bjorkler maintained an unwavering belief in his ability to overcome adversity. "That was something that helped me quite a lot when I went through the sickness. It really helped me to really push and just make the best out of it," he explained.
Aiming for New Heights
Today, Bjorkler is focused on his comeback, determined not to let his past define him. When asked what he wishes people knew about him beyond his cancer journey, he simply stated, "I'm just a guy that likes to play badminton and enjoying badminton life at the moment. I'm really, really blessed that I'm healthy now." To further his development as an elite player, he relocated to Copenhagen, seeking better training opportunities in a country where badminton is more popular than in Sweden. "Badminton is of course not that big in Sweden so I made a move to Denmark. I live in Copenhagen, I practice there," he noted.
Despite a challenging start to his World Championships campaign, Bjorkler remains focused on his goals. "My target is to go back to the top 100 and just develop myself and be a better player and play the bigger tournaments," he stated. His ambition now transcends merely proving his resilience; it is about exploring the full extent of his potential as a healthy athlete. Ultimately, Bjorkler hopes to be remembered not just as a survivor of cancer, but as a passionate badminton player who cherishes the sport he loves.
