India’s para-athletes have achieved a significant milestone at the 2026 Asian Para Games in Nagoya, officially surpassing the 100-medal mark. As the competition nears its conclusion on October 24, the Indian contingent has cemented its position in fourth place on the overall medal table, trailing behind a dominant Chinese team that has amassed 323 medals.

With the tally currently standing at 25 gold, 32 silver, and 43 bronze medals, the Indian squad has demonstrated remarkable consistency across multiple disciplines. The performance highlights a sustained period of growth for the nation's para-sports program, building on the momentum established during the recent Asian Games.

Record-Breaking Performances and Multi-Sport Success

The track-and-field events have served as the primary engine for India’s success in Nagoya. Friday, October 23, proved to be a particularly productive day, highlighted by world-record displays from Sandeep and Haney. Sandeep claimed gold in the men’s 400m T64 final at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium, clocking a world-record time of 52.28 seconds. In the same venue, Haney secured gold in the javelin throw F37/38 with a world-record distance of 60.49m, earning 1116 Raza points.

The success extended well beyond the track. Archer Sheetal Devi reaffirmed her status as a top competitor by securing two gold medals within a two-hour window on Thursday. Meanwhile, the swimming contingent reached a total of 10 medals, bolstered by Ravi Budigina’s hat-trick of medals, which included a bronze in the men’s 50m freestyle S13. Additional podium finishes in the pool came from Kapil Kumar, who took silver, alongside bronze medalists Swatik Patil and Tejas Nandakumar.

Depth Across Disciplines

India’s versatility was further evidenced by strong showings in badminton and table tennis. On the badminton court, Nitesh Kumar and Naveen Sivakumar secured gold medals, while Thulasimathi and Nithya Sre Sumathy Sivan added silvers to the tally. In table tennis, the team secured four bronze medals, marking a notable improvement over their previous best of two.

Other notable contributors included Suvarna Raj, who clinched gold in the women’s F54 discus throw, and Swati Chaudhary, who earned silver in the women’s W1 individual recurve archery event. As the Games draw to a close, the Indian delegation remains optimistic that the final results will further bolster their historic century-mark achievement. This performance follows a strong tradition of growth, with India having previously secured 111 medals at the 2023 Asian Para Games and 107 medals at the 2022 Hangzhou Games.
