In a thrilling display of athletic prowess,
Singh, who previously earned a bronze medal in the 10,000m at the last Asian Games and secured gold in both the 5,000m and 10,000m at the Asian Championships, faced challenges in adjusting to the local conditions after returning from a six-month training period in the United States. “I used to wake up at 2 o’clock in the night. I have gotten used to it (the time zone), about 50 percent now,” he remarked following his first race of the season in India. He expressed dissatisfaction with his performance, attributing it to the heat and the new track surface, which he described as not gripping well and overly bouncy.
Focus on Training and Future Competitions
As the national record holder in both the 5,000m and 10,000m events, Singh is determined to maintain his focus on training, despite the mounting expectations surrounding his performance. He emphasized the importance of adhering to the guidance of his coach, Scott Simmons. “I have to take pressure. We are doing our best. God knows what will happen in the future. I am focusing on my training. We are not thinking too much,” Singh stated, highlighting his commitment to improving his speed, particularly in the 1,500m event.
Looking ahead, Singh is preparing for two significant competitions this season: the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games. He plans to consult with Simmons after each event to strategize his training and competition approach. “I communicate with my coach after the events. He will decide how to go about it,” he added, showcasing his reliance on expert guidance as he aims for a successful athletic season.
