Virat Kohli is making good progress in his recovery from injury and is expected to be back for the ODIs against England.

MUMBAI: Virat Kohli is reportedly making notable strides in his recovery from a hamstring injury, positioning him for a potential return to the Indian cricket team for the forthcoming ODI series in England. Sources indicate that Kohli has commenced his rehabilitation process, with his injury healing at a promising rate. He is anticipated to visit the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Centre of Excellence soon for a fitness evaluation and clearance. If his recovery continues on this positive trajectory, Kohli could rejoin the squad for the series against England.

Selection Committee Meeting Approaches

The BCCI is set to convene a selection committee meeting later this week to finalize the Indian ODI squad for the England tour. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed on Thursday that the meeting will take place within the next three to four days. The three-match ODI series is scheduled to run from July 14 to 19, with matches taking place in Birmingham, Cardiff, and at Lord's.

Kohli, 37, has been sidelined from the ongoing home ODI series against Afghanistan due to his hamstring injury, with Yashasvi Jaiswal stepping in as his replacement. The star batsman has been under the care of Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwalla, a prominent orthopaedic surgeon affiliated with the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai, who also serves as a consultant for the BCCI.

Injury Details and Future Prospects

The injury occurred during the IPL final, where Kohli scored an impressive 75 runs off 42 balls, leading the Royal Challengers Bengaluru to victory over the Gujarat Titans and securing their second consecutive IPL title. Recently, images surfaced of Kohli in London, where he resides, spending time with English cricketer Jordon Cox, a teammate from the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. This meeting took place shortly before Cox was named in England's playing XI for the second Test against New Zealand at The Oval.

During the announcement of India's squad for the Afghanistan series on June 6, chief selector Ajit Agarkar hinted at Kohli's potential return for the England series, although he noted that there was "no clear timeline" from the medical team regarding his recovery. Agarkar stated, "With Virat, it's just been less than a week since he injured himself in the IPL final. We don't know the timelines yet. But it looks like he might be fit for that England one-day series." Kohli, who has retired from T20Is and Tests, now focuses solely on ODIs, with his last appearance being in the home series against New Zealand in January, where he scored 240 runs at an average of 80 and a strike rate of 105.26.
