Shubman Gill, the captain of India's Test and ODI cricket teams, recently drew parallels between his batting style and the tennis techniques of rising star Carlos Alcaraz. Observing Alcaraz's skillful drop shot during the men's semifinals at Wimbledon, Gill noted similarities to his own signature short-arm jab, a shot he frequently employs against short-pitched deliveries.

In an interview with JioStar, Gill expressed admiration for Alcaraz's drop shot, describing it as "quick, deceptive, and very effective." He remarked, "The drop shot that Alcaraz plays reminds me of the short-arm jab in cricket. I play that shot too; it's my trademark shot." This comparison highlights the artistry and tactical nuance present in both sports, showcasing how athletes can find inspiration across different disciplines.

Dream Dinner Guests

During the conversation, Gill also shared his dream dinner guest list, which includes some of the most iconic figures in sports. He named tennis legends Serena Williams and Roger Federer, alongside cricket greats Sachin Tendulkar and Viv Richards. "Those are the four legends I would love to sit with and have dinner with them," he said. "I think the conversations would be incredible. They have all dominated their eras and have so much to share about their journeys. It would be a dream dinner."

As the Wimbledon tournament progresses, Gill expressed his support for Italian player Jannik Sinner, predicting that he could emerge as the champion at the All England Club. "I'm backing Sinner to win Wimbledon. He is a fantastic player, and he carries himself really well both on and off the court," Gill stated, showcasing his keen interest in the sport beyond his own discipline.

Federer's Influence

When discussing his favorite tennis player, Gill did not hesitate to name Roger Federer. He reflected on how Federer’s seemingly effortless style of play belies the immense dedication and hard work behind it. "Growing up, a lot of people said he made everything look effortless. But when you play a sport yourself, you realize how much work goes into making it look that way," Gill explained. He added that he too has been described as effortless in cricket, acknowledging the effort required to achieve such grace.

In a light-hearted moment, Gill expressed a desire to partner with Alcaraz in a doubles match, citing the Spaniard's enjoyment of the game. "He looks like someone who really enjoys himself on the court. It would be fun to play alongside him," Gill said, indicating his confidence in holding his own in tennis.
