RENTON, Wash. — The Seattle Seahawks are exploring the possibility of signing cornerback Terrion Arnold, following a recent meeting with the player over the weekend. Arnold, who was drafted in the first round by the Detroit Lions in 2024, was released in late June after facing serious legal issues, including felony charges related to a robbery and kidnapping incident that occurred in February.

During a press conference on Monday, Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald confirmed the team's interest in Arnold, stating, "It's enough right now that we had him in for a great visit, a great tryout. It's a situation where there's other things that are surrounding it. We're aware of that. But we're working through the situation right now." The meeting included a workout, which was officially categorized as a tryout in the NFL's transaction records.

Arnold, 23, is accused of orchestrating the kidnapping and assault of three individuals whom he allegedly believed had stolen $100,000 in cash, along with luxury items from him. He faces multiple charges, including four counts of kidnapping and four counts of armed robbery, which could result in a life sentence if convicted. Arnold turned himself in to authorities on June 24 and was released on June 30 after posting a $1 million bond. A judge in Hillsborough County, Florida, has mandated that he remain at his residence in Tallahassee, except for specific activities related to his legal case or professional commitments.

The Lions announced Arnold's release on June 29, shortly after the legal troubles came to light. Macdonald emphasized the importance of conducting thorough due diligence regarding Arnold's situation, noting, "There are a lot of people in Terrion's corner that we respect in terms of [their view of] the type of guy he is." He expressed confidence in the Seahawks' ability to make informed decisions regarding potential signings.

Prior to the 2024 NFL Draft, the Seahawks had shown significant interest in Arnold, who was ultimately selected 24th overall by the Lions. Karl Scott, the Seahawks' defensive backs coach, had previously recruited Arnold while at Alabama, although he left before Arnold's freshman year. Current Seahawks quarterback Jalen Milroe also played alongside Arnold in college, adding another layer of familiarity.

As the Seahawks look to solidify their cornerback lineup, they are currently evaluating options following the departure of Riq Woolen in free agency. Noah Igbinoghene and Nehemiah Pritchett are competing for the third cornerback position behind starters Devon Witherspoon and Josh Jobe. Rookie Julian Neal, a third-round pick, is also in the mix but is recovering from an undisclosed injury.

Macdonald expressed confidence in the team's defensive backfield, stating, "This is a situation of, we're kind of in everything all the time. So we're always trying to make our team the best we can possibly make it." The timeline for Arnold's potential availability remains uncertain, given his ongoing legal issues. "I think we understand that anything is kind of on the table," Macdonald added, reflecting the complexities surrounding Arnold's situation.
