Patrick Mahomes matches Tom Brady’s record for fastest to 100 NFL wins

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has etched his name alongside Tom Brady in the NFL record books, reaching 100 regular-season victories in just 131 starts. The milestone was achieved during Sunday’s 22-6 win over the Los Angeles Chargers, marking the fewest games needed to hit the century mark since 1950.

Reflecting on the achievement, Mahomes maintained his characteristic humility while acknowledging the significance of being linked to the seven-time Super Bowl champion. The quarterback, now in his 10th season, joked about the frequency of his comparisons to the legendary signal-caller before expressing his genuine respect for the benchmark Brady set throughout his career.

A clinical performance in a milestone win

Despite missing key receiving targets Rashee Rice and Tyquan Thornton due to injury, Mahomes orchestrated a disciplined offensive display. The Chiefs established a double-digit lead by halftime, with Mahomes demonstrating remarkable efficiency; he completed all 13 of his passing attempts when not under pressure, accumulating 140 yards in the first half alone. Rather than forcing high-risk plays, he utilized his mobility and took what the Chargers' defense conceded.

The victory was a collective effort, with Mahomes connecting with eight different teammates. Receiver Xavier Worthy recorded a season-high seven receptions for 73 yards, while tight ends Travis Kelce and Noah Gray combined for 106 receiving yards. Rookie Cyrus Allen also contributed, hauling in a 23-yard reception during a critical first-and-20 situation.

Reflecting on the journey and the road ahead

The win against the Chargers held extra significance for Mahomes, as it marked a return to the venue where he suffered a season-ending ACL and LCL injury last December. That experience, he noted, has shifted his perspective on the game, encouraging him to cherish every opportunity to compete. Head coach Andy Reid praised his quarterback’s leadership and performance, while teammate Trey Smith lauded Mahomes’ attention to detail and work ethic.

While Mahomes remains focused on the present, he acknowledged the long road required to match Brady’s career total of 251 wins. Currently 31 years old, the Chiefs star emphasized that his primary goal remains winning each individual game as it comes. With the Chiefs now sitting at 5-0 as the only undefeated team in the AFC, Mahomes continues to lead a franchise that has secured three Super Bowl titles during his tenure, keeping his focus firmly on the immediate challenges of the current season.
