NFL to Review New Allegations Against Packers Running Back Josh Jacobs

The National Football League has announced it will conduct a review into fresh allegations of physical and verbal abuse involving Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs. The development follows the public release of police records from the Hobart/Lawrence Police Department, which included reports from three women detailing incidents dating back to April 2021.

These new claims surfaced after the women became aware of Jacobs' arrest in May regarding a separate domestic violence incident. The league confirmed on Saturday that it would incorporate these additional reports into its ongoing investigation, which remains open. Jacobs previously pleaded no contest to misdemeanor counts of battery and criminal damage to property stemming from the May incident.

Details of the Police Investigation

The 129-page report released by the Hobart/Lawrence Police Department contains accounts from the May 23 incident, during which the complainant alleged that Jacobs attempted to strangle or suffocate her on two occasions. According to the police documentation, the woman described the running back as appearing "enraged" and stated she feared for her life during the altercation. She further alleged that Jacobs prevented her from leaving the residence, destroyed her phone, and physically assaulted her in the garage, resulting in a loss of consciousness.

Following the release of these records, legal representatives for Jacobs—David Z. Chesnoff, Richard A. Schonfeld, and Clarence F. Duchac III—issued a statement defending their client. They noted that the Brown County District Attorney’s office had been in possession of these "uncorroborated, old, and previously unreported allegations" for several months. The attorneys maintained that the District Attorney conducted an exhaustive investigation before determining that only two misdemeanor charges were appropriate, leading to the plea agreement that Jacobs is currently fulfilling.

Legal Context and Police Documentation

The police records include body camera and dash camera footage from the time of Jacobs' arrest on May 26. In the footage, Jacobs is seen discussing the legal process with an officer while being transported to the station. During the conversation, Jacobs questioned the fairness of the situation, stating he believed he had "not done anything wrong," while the officer advised him to rely on his legal counsel regarding the charges.

The Hobart/Lawrence Police Department also released a 9-1-1 call from the May 23 incident, which featured sounds of yelling but no direct communication with dispatchers. While the department provided extensive documentation, some materials, including surveillance footage from the garage, were withheld. Both Jacobs and the complainant had previously sought to block the release of these records. The department noted that it would have released the garage video with the victim's body pixelated had they not been legally restricted from doing so.
