Bengals receiver Andrei Iosivas sidelined for up to six weeks following thumb surgery

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Andrei Iosivas is facing an extended spell on the sidelines after undergoing surgery to repair a thumb injury. The fourth-year player is expected to be out of action for four to six weeks, a development that will see him placed on the team's injured reserve list.

The injury occurred during Cincinnati's 20-6 victory over the Houston Texans in Week 2. While the exact moment of the setback remains unclear, Iosivas was active until the final stages of the contest, recording his final play during punt coverage with just over two minutes remaining in the game.

Managing the roster vacancy

Bengals head coach Zac Taylor confirmed that Iosivas will be eligible to return later this season, though the mandatory injured reserve designation ensures he will miss at least four games. Through the opening two weeks of the campaign, Iosivas had served as the team's third starting wide receiver, contributing three receptions for 19 yards on four targets.

Addressing the media on Wednesday, Taylor noted that the coaching staff is prepared to utilize a variety of personnel to cover the void left by the receiver's absence. The team plans to look across both the wide receiver and tight end rooms to maintain their offensive depth. Currently, the Bengals hold a 2-0 record and are preparing for a divisional clash against the Pittsburgh Steelers this Sunday, where they hope to secure a 3-0 start for the first time since 2015.

Internal options for Cincinnati

With Iosivas moving to the injured reserve, the Bengals now have one open spot on their 53-man active roster. Taylor has not yet disclosed how the organization intends to fill that vacancy. The team currently carries six wide receivers on the active roster, a group that includes Ke'Shawn Williams, who has been inactive for each of the first two games of the season.

As the team shifts its focus to the upcoming matchup in Pittsburgh, the coaching staff remains confident in the depth of their roster to mitigate the loss of Iosivas. The focus remains on maintaining the momentum of their undefeated start while navigating the early-season injury report.
