Alvin Kamara returns to full practice as Saints prepare for Ravens

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara has taken a significant step toward returning to the field, participating as a full participant in Wednesday's practice session. The veteran playmaker, who has been sidelined since suffering an MCL sprain during a joint practice with the Dallas Cowboys on August 18, appears to be nearing a return to game action.

Saints coach Kellen Moore expressed optimism regarding Kamara's availability for the upcoming Sunday clash against the Baltimore Ravens. While the initial recovery timeline for the injury was estimated at one month, Kamara’s progress has been swift. Moore noted that the running back was in a position to potentially feature in the team's Week 1 loss to the Detroit Lions, though the coaching staff opted for caution. According to Moore, Kamara is currently in a great place after putting in the necessary work to prepare for his return.

Impact of Kamara's potential return

The potential return of Kamara provides a significant boost to a Saints offense that struggled to establish momentum on the ground in their season opener. The team managed only 91 rushing yards in the 31-30 defeat to Detroit. While newcomer Travis Etienne Jr. contributed 46 yards on nine carries and added 32 yards through the air, the addition of Kamara is expected to diversify the team's offensive threat.

Quarterback Tyler Shough highlighted the veteran's multifaceted value to the squad, emphasizing his physicality, speed, and ability to influence the game both as a runner and a receiver. Shough noted that Kamara’s presence in the huddle and his proven experience command respect from opposing defenses, making him a difference-maker across multiple positions.

Injury updates for Jordan and Johnson

While the outlook for Kamara is positive, the status of defensive end Cameron Jordan remains uncertain for the weekend. Jordan has been managing a hamstring injury since August 6 and was only a limited participant in Wednesday's session after returning to the practice field last Friday. Coach Moore indicated that the team will continue to monitor his progress as the week continues.

Elsewhere on the injury report, tight end Juwan Johnson was absent from Wednesday's practice due to an illness. On a more positive note for the tight end room, rookie Oscar Delp made his return to the practice field for the first time in several weeks as he continues to recover from a hamstring issue.
